‘Tis the season to get experimental with Christmas colour. Whether you’re taking inspiration from your Christmas decorations or your favourite festive tipple, the party season is your licence to go to town with vivid colour and go bolder than ever before. There are Christmas lights to upstage after all.
“Consumer demand is getting stronger for vivids - clients are seeking out brighter and bolder colours more than ever,” says Desmond Murray, Atherton Cox and Matrix Artistic Director.
If in doubt, go for a Direct Dye (semi-permanent) colour that will give you all the dazzle over the Christmas period and gradually fade out for February. If you need any inspiration, check out our guide to the most popular Christmas tones with some unlikely colour muses. Green sprout, anyone? Time to unwrap your festive colour…
1. Mulled Wine
Go under the influence with a deep rich red that resembles warming mulled wine. To add some spice, go for subtle cinnamon accents that punctuate your burgundy whenever you swish your hair on the dancefloor.
2. Confectionery Colour
A dazzling, vibrant vivid, like confectionary wrapper pink or purple, will be the standout accessory of your party outfit. Up the intensity of your jewel tone with a metallic finish for hair that’s chic but seasonal.
3. Hot Chocolate
Picture a deep warm brown that looks like it could melt marshmallows. Get a brunette update for the party season with the sweetest shades of multi-tonal, rich browns. Your hair will look good enough to eat.
4. Tinsel Metallic
Whether you’re a gold or silver person, take inspiration from your Christmas tree tinsel with this season’s on-trend metallic tones. If you’re looking for more of a cool tone, go silvery grey, or for a warmer hue, go for coppery gold.
5. Santa Red
If there’s one colour that typifies Christmas it’s bold, Santa Claus red. Match up to his famous suit with a bold, vivid red hair colour. This isn’t a shade for wallflowers so make sure you’ve got what it takes to be Mr or Mrs Christmas on the dancefloor.
6. Sprout Green
Not the most obvious inspiration, but sprouts are as much a part of Christmas as Bing Crosby. Love them or hate them, sprouts come in many variations of delicious greens so choose the right tone for you that won’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
7. Snow White
Forget dreaming of a white Christmas, and create your own snow globe scene via your hair colour. Platinum white hair is a big commitment but, done properly, its high contrast will give you serious wintry vibes for 2019 and beyond.
