Newsflash: natural, barely-there hair doesn’t get a look in with AW19 hair trends. Backstage at London Fashion Week, hair colour and styles were big, bold and not sorry.
It’s a big shift from the natural-look hair that floated down the catwalk last season. Major hair trends coming up for AW19 include multicoloured clouds, big hair and bandage wraps for hair accessories.
Want to plan your hair looks for next season, now? Stand by for the biggest, breakout hair trends that we spotted backstage at London Fashion Week AW19.
THE VOLUME: BIGGG HAIR
Big hair is back for next season. Wild and volumised, wind-blown texture was big news backstage with vats of mousse to help achieve the look. At LFW, texture was blown out in a major way to exaggerate the width of the hair rather the height. The motto for next season? Go big or go home.
Hair trend product hero: Matrix Style Link Volume Builder
The how-to: Apply the Volume Builder mousse to clean, damp hair. Blow-dry using a hairdryer with a nozzle on a hot/fast setting, focusing at the roots to build in volume. Start at the back of the head and tip your hair upside down.
THE STYLE: SCI-FI BEEHIVE
Messy beehives, move over. There’s a new sci-fi silhouette in town. Sixties hair got remodeled for 2019 at LFW with futuristic style beehives. Sculpted and almost alien-shaped the new up-do has a sleek, aerodynamic shape that made it look like models had been transported from a spaceship. Key to the look is a styled crown that’s elongated and super-neat.
Hair trend product hero: Matrix Style Link Height Riser
The how-to: Sprinkle the Height Riser powder into roots gradually to add grip so your sci-fi beehive has structure. Use a tail comb to separate the roots to make sure the product is distributed evenly.
THE ACCESSORY: JERSEY BANDAGE
Glitzy clips and barrettes might be big for this season, but the accessories are edgier for AW19. One of the star styles of the AW19 backstage season was wet-look ponytails bounded with pieces of long black jersey material. The bounding started with a headband and criss-crossed all the way to the ends for the ultimate in sleek minimalism.
Hair trend product hero: Matrix Style Link Style Fixer
The how-to: Once you’ve styled your bandage firmly in place spray Style Fixer 10-12 inches from your hair. Use it to fix back flyaways and tendrils – the neater this style, the better.
THE COLOUR: MULTICOLOURED CLOUDS
Forget block colour, multi-coloured creations hit the runway at LFW. Soft, blended elemental tones like sky blue and sunset coral were merged together with blank spaces, dubbed ‘colour clouds’. The patterned hair colour techniques matched the material so the entire top-to-toe look blended like a holiday scene horizon.
Hair trend product hero: SoColor Cult
The how-to: Experiment with temporary colours on naturally light hair using a mix of your top AW19 pastel tones. There’s no right or wrong combination of colours, but the blank space is key.
