Thinking of going lighter for the new year? In winter, our wardrobes are darker and our faces are paler, so it makes sense that colourists advise their clients to give their look a lift by going blonder.
More than 3.5 million women are getting colour services in the salon every year and experimenting with new colours. If you’re in the blonde camp, the technology of eliminating brassy tones just went up a notch (hello, Brass Off), so you can be braver with your blonde tones.
These are the blonde shades on our 2019 radar – and how to keep them looking classy, not brassy…
Lighter and Brighter Colour
Blondes never go out of fashion but some tones are more on trend than others.
“Even though I am a lover of cool icy blondes, I would like to see the return of warmer blondes make a comeback this year,” says Ria Kulik, Artistic Educator for Matrix.
With new innovations on the hair scene to ward off brassiness, we’re likely to be seeing a return to warmer blonde tones, like golden blonde or soft strawberry. Watch this space...
2019 Top Tones
GOLDEN BLONDE:
We’re looking at Barbie for inspiration – everybody’s favourite golden blonde. Cool-toned olive skin will glow with golden blonde hair. Using a multi-dimensional mix of warm blonde tones like butter, gold and honey will keep your blonde colour looking super-natural.
WARM PLATINUM:
It’s platinum colour, but with a warmer edge. This will instantly warm up your complexion if you want to go mega-light, but icy/white platinum is too cool for you. Try wearing a bold, bright lip colour for contrast.
SOFT STRAWBERRY:
Want to go warmer? Give your blonde a rich and warm spin – without going too red or orange – with soft strawberry blonde. Asking your colourist for a dark blonde base will keep your colour convincing, even during root regrowth.
HONEY BLONDE:
This sweet shade looks amazing against light skin and light eyes. If you want to go ‘bRonder’, a dark honey blonde will let you keep your roots intact so you don’t have to panic about regular touch-ups.
